The holidays are full of fun and festive events, but it is hard to know which ones are truly kid friendly. Here are a few events that you really can enjoy with your little ones in the Orange County area. Don’t forget to wear your winter coats!
The Cruise of Lights in Huntington Beach is a 45-minute boat ride that tours the waters of Huntington Harbor. The narrated cruise highlights the spectacular Christmas lights and decorations that adorn the multi-million-dollar homes that line the harbor’s waterways. This is a magical experience for kids who can manage to sit or stand in limited space for about an hour. The 2011 Cruise of Lights takes place nightly from December 15-23, rain or shine. Proceeds from ticket sales help support the Philharmonic Society of Orange County. Tickets are $10 for ages 2-12 and $17 for ages 13 and over. Monday, December 19 is value night when adult tickets are discounted to $15 each and kids 12 and under receive a free gift. Are your kids animal lovers? Check out Holidays with the Critters at the Santa Ana Zoo. This will be a fun and interactive event with the Zoo transformed into a winter wonderland. The festivities will include light displays, live music, story time, arts and crafts, train rides, and of course, animals! Admission is $6 per person ages 2 and up ($3 for members). All aboard the Christmas Train! Visit Irvine Regional Park on selected nights starting December 2 through December 23 and take the train to meet Santa and have your picture taken. Back at the train depot enjoy activities like cookie decorating, story time with Mrs. Claus, jumping in the Santa bounce house, and carnival games. Food is available at the concession stand. Christmas Train tickets are $10 per person. Children 24 months and under are free. Some activities are free, but tickets for the fee activities are $4 each, or get a book of 15 for $50.
