by mini blob

Philadelphia’s annual auto show happens Jan. 28 through Feb. 5, 2012. Represented are major foreign and domestic auto brands with a specialty show area featuring Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Maserati and Bentley. The convention will also include floor space for auto accessory purchases, program distribution, a dining area and an Toyota Ride and Drive event.

You can directly access the convention center from Market East Station without traveling outside in potentially cold weather.

When: Jan. 28 through Feb. 5 (see info page for hours)

Where: The Pennsylvania Convention Center, 1101 Arch St., Philadelphia.

Cost: $6 for seniors (weekdays only) and kids 6-12, free for kids under 6, $12 for adults and kids 13 and above.

Vehicle Highlights

The Philadelphia International Auto Show is a place for automakers to showcase their latest models. This year’s highlights include 2012 and 2013 models.

Surprises include the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle, marking the 12th year of the New Beetle model. This sleeker version looks closer to a contemporary “cute car” like the Mini Cooper or the PT Cruiser rather than the iconic nostalgia the model is known for.

The 2013 Dodge Dart is a quirky and compact sedan combining speed, style and value. This refreshing newcomer is eye-catching to the practical consumer.

Audi’s 2013 A5 Cabriolet retains the Cabrio’s classic look with an updated interior. Designers didn’t mess with this car-but there are upgrades beneath its sleek style, including significantly improved mileage.

The show also features exotic and classic cars rarely seen outside of auto shows.

Philadelphia Celebrity Appearances

The auto show’s celebrity appearances include three local sports personalities: Scott Harnell and Danny Briere (forwards with the Philadelphia Flyers) and Philadelphia Eagles Running Back LeShawn McCoy.

The athletes will participate in question and answer sessions but will not sign autographs at the event.

If you are interested in autographs from celebrities, you can head to the DUB Show, a tour featuring entertainment, celebrity appearances and celebrity vehicles.

Ride and Drives

The event will include four Ride and Drives, allowing you to experience new car models on the road.

Toyota’s event occurs indoor and is open during regular show hours. For outdoor shows and hours, check the event schedule. Kia, Cadillac and General Motors will offer outdoor ride and drives in specific models.

If you’d like to win tickets to the auto show, check the show’s official Facebook page. The auto show crew posts pictures of mystery cars that will appear at the show. If you are the first to guess correctly, you’ll have a free pair of tickets waiting for you at the will call window.
