The ancient Hebrews are the founding people of the bible, and the language and thought expressed in the original manuscripts of the bible must be seen in the ancient Hebrew perspective and not in our Greek and Roman mind set. The modern translations, even the old King James Version of the bible have been westernized to the point where the original meaning has been lost almost completely. The ancient Hebrews were a nomadic tribe of people who saw life like a journey where man is in a forest who needs directions to travel hence the commandments of God are directions in the ancient Hebrew sense, and a way to go in life. The western thinker would see the word “command” in the westernized bibles but this word in Hebrew is “Mitzvot” and literally means “direction”. But, the English translators translated it as commandments because they lacked the knowledge of the Ancient Hebrew thought and philosophy and wanted to insert their own cultural bias. Remember the bible was written from an ancient culture long gone and has to be reconstructed for the purpose of understanding fully in the Eastern Hebrew thought instead of our Roman and Greek based thinking.
The study of ancient Hebrew language is imperative to really knowing what the bible or the 66 books of it are really about. There are so many abstract words that the concrete meaning of them have been lost because of the translation of the bible. If people taught more Hebrew and it’s ancient eastern way of thinking there would not be so many debates and theological differences in believers in Christ. There are so many denominations in the Christian faith that it seems absurd to settle any debate. Once people learn the Hebrew and base their beliefs in the Hebrew way of thinking, they can solve some issues and can discuss things with certainty. For instance what happens when someone dies? Do they go to Heaven, or do they simply sleep to await the resurrection of the dead, or neither?
There are doctrinal differences in every church, and congregation to what happens when someone dies. This has happened because of the lack of study of Hebrew and ancient Hebrew thought and culture. There are more universities who have preferred to study Greek instead of Hebrew or have very little Hebrew curriculum. This is because our culture is more in tune with the Greek language and culture than the Hebrew, and especially ancient Hebrew.
When one thinks more concretely about the words of the bible and make abstract words like faith, praise and worship more concrete one can see the original meaning of the words though the ancient Hebrew language. And, through examining the words of the bible in a literal way one can decipher the true meaning of the Word of God by going deeper in the truth.
