So, as you might know, I’m wild about wrangling up shoes, and lately with fall shopping for my own offspring, I’ve been really getting into kids’ shoe lines. As soon as I heard the words, “Fatbaby Cactus”, I was intrigued. With names like this and “Roughstock”, I was kicking up my heels with delight. These sure ain’t-no-how your average kids’ boots. These are dust kicking, rodeo romping boots that will put a swagger in your kids’ step, and make them excited to put their shoes on and go out. Of course, the fact that they are easy to pull on and off, makes them ideal for kids who haven’t yet mastered laces (or have time for them). The Roughstock boot even has pull eyelets on the sides to make it even easier for those little hands that crave independence to do all tasks without help from Mommy or Daddy.
So, starting with the Ariat Roughstock, this boot comes in the great name colors of “Brown Oiled Rowdy”, “Distressed Brown/Red”, and “Roughed Hazel/Twilight”. The Brown Oiled is a good classic, and the Red/Brown and Hazel/Twilight combos are dazzling and nicely unisex. They have unique, decorative stitching which runs up each side of the boot, made of full grain leather and a four-row stitch pattern. I’m a big fan of breathability with kids’ shoes, and this shoe exhorts that it has breathable man-made lining and a cushioned man-made insole. I think of shoes as a craft, and knowing they are hand-made makes them of a much higher quality in my eyes. As little toes, heels, and arches are growing and developing, I like to know that I’m putting a good shoe on my children’s feet, and with these I definitely feel that way. I hate spending a lot of money on a shoe that my kids will outgrow, but this boot comes with “Booster Bed technology”. As your child’s feet grow you can remove the Booster Bed from underneath the insole to give their feet some extra room.
Next on the list: “Fatbaby Cactus”. There are two colors, and one is aimed distinctly at boys and the other at girls, with the choices of either “Watermelon/Blackberry” or “Rough Brown/Red”. What sets these boots apart from the Roughstock are their chunky soles with what looks like great traction, and these boots are meant to be noticed with their bright colors and designs-even the stitching is in contrast to the soles. They’re fun, fresh, and have a nice rounded quality that looks like it will let little toes wiggle nicely, and really look comfortable. These boots also have the “Booster Bed technology” that allows for extra room as your children’s feet grow, and the breathable man made lining and insole, quality leather, etc. The other distinctive quality of these boots is that, apart from the Roughstock that is fashionable “for the child who doesn’t ride but wants to look the part”, these Fatbaby Cactus boots are fun, functional, and are actually performance riding boots with a stirrup-friendly outsole design. Adorable.
Ariat’s Fatbaby Cactus and Roughrider cowboy boots for toddlers and youth make me stand up and say “Howdy” and “Much obliged” for a great shoe for kids.
