It was time. I needed a new vehicle. I did research throughout the Internet on many vehicles, and test-drove many more. The items that I wanted the most were great gas mileage and the ability to travel with my two boys for road trips. The only problem was that most of the hybrid vehicle components are made in Japan and the recent earthquake limited my options. Ford had a waiting list of 16 weeks at the dealership I went to for the hybrid I wanted to test. But thank the car gods -Lexus was just down the road.
The car I had read about was the Lexus CT hybrid and the rating for gas mileage was 43-mpg city. 41-mpg highway. Only problem was another waiting list. What was in stock was a Hybrid HS 250 that was great to drive. The only think I did not like was the interior color, it was light tan and the exterior was red. With kids, darker colors are a must in my mind. I did the cup test (I get every cup 7-11 has and put it in the cup holds to see what fits) and the center consol fit every cup! A first! The door cup holders are meant for bottles only. Also the center consol armrest can slide back for the taller cups to fit. This one was also not load with all the options.
So, I ordered the one I wanted with dark interior, dark exterior and the first test-drive for it was 5,200 miles long. When it came in I had my mom drive me to the dealer and I transferred everything I needed for 24 days on the road from her car to my new car. The new car had ten miles on it. Since this was a car that I planned on keeping for a while, I decided that I wanted it loaded with all the options available. It has a sunroof, navigation, satellite radio, and mouse control consol to help limit off the road looking time. The front seats were heated and cooled (with vented air). Thank God the AC worked great in the Texas heat.
This test drive was a real chance to see if I was going to love it or trade it in when I got back. For the entire trip I averaged 37 miles per gallon. I drove from Seattle to Austin Texas and back. The room that this vehicle had for my boys and me was amazing. This was also the first time I could sit in the passenger seat for a drive now that my oldest son had his learner permit. It was a joy being able to look at our great country instead of just the road.
With all the options for music input, from satellite, radio to USB mp3 we were not at a loss for tunes. Charging all the devises we had could be done in the many ports provided for connections.
Foot room and headroom were not an issue for my son who is now six feet tall. With me being a little shorter, I took his input on that. My youngest fell asleep anywhere we put him in the car so that was a bonus. I did not have any discomfort from being in the vehicle long hours on the road either. The vehicle also could maintain a higher than legal rate of speed as a Texas Trooper so pointed out to me (just with a warning and no ticket).
So on a rating of 1 to 10 with ten being the best and 1 the worst, the Lexus HS 250 got a 10 on performance, a 10 on comfort, and 10 on customer satisfaction. I would also like to thank Myron Meas my salesman from Lexus of Bellevue for his great service and Kevin Burton, the Sales manager, for his patience and great service.
