As a contractor, I’ve installed my fair share of window treatments over the years. The old way of selecting blinds was going down to your local hardware store and picking out the window treatments that best suited your client’s taste. However, now-a-days the internet has changed all of that. All the big brand-name window covering companies have taken their businesses online and lowered their costs by getting rid of the middle men and selling direct. As a contractor, this has really benefited my company and I highly recommend people shop online for their window treatments. I’ve recently been purchasing my window coverings for my clients online from Blindsgalore Canada.
Today, I wanted to review a product I used on a job last week in Vancouver, Canada. The house was a beautiful Victorian on a 5 acre piece of land! We just laid some beautiful cherry wood floors when the owners asked us to install new window treatments. The window treatments they had were 2″ Real Wood slats with a dark stain and had been in the house for decades. They were releasing a strong odder or must which usually points to molding. In wet climates, molding occurs often in wood blinds as time goes by.
The solution was to suggest a synthetic wood or Faux Wood Blinds. Faux wood blinds are made of synthetic materials that are moisture resistant and more durable than real wood. The biggest concern to my client was they did not want the faux wood blinds to “look fake.” Luckily, faux wood blinds have evolved over the years and you cannot tell the difference between real wood blinds and synthetics. Everything down to the direction of the grain is done in great detail to mimic the finest real wood blinds.
The owners decided on Bali Wood Images 2″ Premium Faux Wood Blinds in a rich dark coffee finish. Bali is a great brand-name provider of blinds that I have worked with before and trust. I always do a price comparison online first before I buy. I found Blinds.com to be close in price but Blindsgalore.ca was running a special on faux wood so I ended up buying from them. They sent my clients free samples in the mail to insure they were making the right decision, which is standard for most online retailers, but nice non-the-less. The shipping was free which was nice too! However, Blindsgalore did say 2-3 day business days for the shipping and it took four. Usually not a big deal, but when you are a contractor every minute counts!
The faux wood blinds arrived in perfect condition -no nicks or dings. That was a good start! I gave a Blindsgalore Canada all the measurements of the various windows in the house and they were all custom cut at no extra cost before they shipped. To my surprise, they cut each set of blinds perfectly so I did not have to go back and re-size anything, which is often the case when it comes to window treatments.
When we started the mounting process we choose an outside mount with valance to give the Victorian house the classic look it deserved! Bali blinds are equipped with a two screw mounting system that provides durability and makes for an easy installation. The installation took about a day and we installed 36 window coverings. Needless to say, I was impressed with Blindsgalore’s selection of faux wood blinds and my clients were extremely happy with the results.
