The thing is, if these facts weren’t so infuriating, maybe they would be funny.
One of the latest debacles coming from inside our FDA, is just one of their latest bad jokes. For millennia, people have been eating cherries, but in the FDA’s eyes, they consider it an “unapproved drug!”
You say you haven’t heard about the FDA’s stand against the cherry? Wait till you get a load of this one. The Journal of Natural Products (published by the American Chemical Society, the world’s largest scientific society) came to the conclusion that the tart cherries may relieve pain better than aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs.
People suffering form Gout have known about this for years. The intense pain and inflammation of an acute gout attack usually disappears completely after consuming one to three pints of concentrated cherry juice over the course of several days. Cherries and cherry juice also work for other types of pain. They have lots of calories, so it is better to use encapsulated pills of cherry concentrate if you plan to use them for long term pain and inflammation control. The capsule form has the advantage of reducing inflammation at just 1/10th the dosage of aspirin.
Cherries also rival the top selling anti inflammatory drugs.
Studies have shown that about 20 cherries can reduce inflammation as well as aspirin or the “cox-2” inhibiting drugs, with no side effects, such as gastric bleeding or vitamin depletion associated with these drugs. But when cherry growers cite this research, the FDA sent out threatening regulatory letters telling them to remove the studies from their ads.
We have known for decades that the FDA has been a danger to you and your family health. The governments own General Accounting Office (GAO) found that of the 198 drugs that the FDA did approve between 1976 and 1985… 102 (or 51.5%) had serious post-approval risks. These risks include, but are not limited to, heart failure, myocardial infarction, anaphylaxis, respiratory depression and arrest, seizures, kidney and liver failure, sever blood disorders, birth defects and fetal toxicity, and blindness.
And it continues into the 21st century, and to add insult to injury, while approving lethal drugs, they are actively fighting against your right to keep yourself healthy with foods and food supplements. As far back as 1949, the former FDA commissioner Dr. George Larrick stated that “The activities of the so-called health food industry have increasingly engaged our attention….[we are fighting] the good fight against dried vegetables, vitamins, and similar products.”
