Blueberries are one of my favorite foods and I like eating anything that contains blueberries. A couple of weeks ago, while standing in Line at CVS Pharmacy, I happened to notice the Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf sitting on a display rack.
Without hesitation, I purchased one of these loaves and I’m glad that I did so. Previously, I had eaten the Hostess Raspberry Muffin Loaf and enjoyed its flavor and texture, so I was really psyched to try the blueberry loaf.
Presented here, in an effort to assist the consumer, is an article which reviews and examines the Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf.
The net weight of the standard sized Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf is 3.8 ounces (108 grams). According to the product’s nutrition facts label, one loaf counts as one serving. In physical size, the loaf measures roughly 5″ x 3″.
The regular retail price that I paid for one 3.8 ounce Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf at a Hartford, Connecticut CVS Pharmacy was approximately $1.49. While this price seems a little high to me, it is in line with the prices of other name brand single serving snack cakes.
Texture / Consistency
This muffin loaf offers a pleasing texture that is similar to most muffins, but it seems to be a little bit moister than the average muffin. With a golden brown exterior and yellow interior, this muffin loaf is expertly baked and bound together well. The overall mouth feel offered by the Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf is quite appealing.
The Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf contains 420 calories, with 180 calories from fat, per one muffin serving. This loaf also contains 3.5 grams of saturated fat, 1 gram trans fat, 20 grams total fat, 65 mg of cholesterol, 500 mg of sodium, 58 grams total carbohydrates, less than 1 gram of dietary fiber, 35 grams of sugars and 4 grams of protein, per one muffin serving.
Taste / Flavor
A nice overall flavor is offerd by this blueberry muffin loaf. The cake part of the loaf is sweet and rich and the pieces of blueberries add some great flavor. Unfortunately, the blueberries are in short supply in this loaf.
If the Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf contained more blueberries, it would be a really excellent item. As it is, the loaf does taste quite good, but the lack of berries does a disservice to the product.
Would I purchase this item again ? The answer is ‘yes’. On a flavor scale of one through ten, I would assign this product a rating of 8.99.
Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf is packaged in a clear plastic wrapper. The front of the wrapper features minimal text with the yellow and red words ‘Muffin Loaf’ printed on a white and blue background. Printed on the rear label is all relevant ingredient and nutritional information.
The wrapper on this loaf opens easily, but does not necessarily reclose effectively.
All things considered, the Hostess Blueberry Muffin Loaf is a tasty variety of snack cake that is unusual and fairly substantial in size. Available at pharmacies, grocery stores, supermarkets and other food retailers, this product is recommended. Just don’t expect to find an abundance of blueberries in the loaf.
