I want a President who is really making decisions for the people on behalf of the people. Not a President who says one thing and then does another.
I want a President who will own up to his/her mistakes. Not a President who goes against a nation’s battle cry only to blame his/her mistakes on those who said no in the first place.
I want a President who understands that inflation doesn’t mean we can live on bread alone. Minimum wage increases should result in everyone getting that much of an increase in their pay. Let’s say I make $9.00 an hour and minimum wage goes from $7.25 to $8.50. My pay should go from $9.00 to $10.25 an hour. Don’t adjust for inflation for part of the nation and leave the rest floundering.
I want a President who takes pride in themselves. Someone who has an agenda that is for the greater good of the nation and will do everything in their power to stick to it. I don’t want a President who is going to sell out to the highest bidder just to move up in the world. Making a deal with Iraq for more oil in exchange for more military force is not worth it. Please realize that 1,000 potential soldiers mean a heck of a lot more than 50 barrels of oil to power vehicles. Don’t believe me…ask the families of the ones who have lost loved ones.
I want a President to make criminals pay. Don’t allow a rapist to go free just because a jail is overcrowded. Last time I checked jail wasn’t a vacation. Let the criminals suffer.
I want a President who will take drugs off the streets. Want a hint as to where to start? Try your own backyard.
I want a President who will put education on the forefront. Don’t say no child gets left behind and then proceed to walk ten steps in front of the children.
I want a President who will make health care more affordable. Did you get that? More affordable. Not mandatory, with a fee attached if we don’t have it. If it was affordable, we would get it. Not that hard to figure out. Common sense is useful here. Want a hint as to where to start on this one? Take health care away from criminals. Put the money spent on the health of the criminals into the health care of the millions of children who die because they had a severe fever but the hospital turned them away because of no insurance. We, as taxpayers after all, should get a say so in where the money is spent.
I want a President who will look me in the eye and make me believe that this nation really is the land of the free. Why is this important to me? Because I’m a lesbian and I want to be free that’s why.
I want a President who will send illegal immigrants back where they came from. Better yet, avoid the cost and cut a deal. They get a job just like the rest of Americans, they pay taxes, worry about how to pay their bills at night, and they learn to speak the English language. They do that, they can stay.
I want a President who sees past race, sexuality, and gender. Give me a President who will not think two about offering the same legal rights to an African American, homosexual woman, and I’ll give you a President who gets votes.
I want a President who makes me believe that this nation is still a power house. I don’t want a President who will continue to run this country to the ground.
I want a President who understands that we are in a crisis situation economically. Stop sending me a check every year for $600 when that doesn’t even cover the cost of gas.
I want a President who will balance the darn budget. Hire the best accountants in the business. Let them audit the books. We’ll grant immunity to the criminals who messed with the books in the first place. Just balance the budget and let us move on…without owing money to anyone.
I want a President who will make countries think twice before they laugh at us. I don’t want a President who will join in the fun.
I want a President who will take care of our problems at home before we begin to help others. How in the world can we help others when we can’t even help ourselves? We can spend billions of dollars on barrels of oil but we can’t spend money to get the homeless off the streets, the jobless jobs, the sick healthy, and the tired sleep?
I want a President to let the kids decide if they want God in their schools. Don’t tell a child they can’t pray before a meal, game, or test. Last time I checked, it was God’s job to judge. Stop judging these kids who have the kind of faith one can only dream about. Maybe if we all stop whining about the kids saying a prayer and pay more attention to the teenage sniper on the rooftops, more kids would feel safe and secure…and graduate.
I know someone who fights the good fight. Who listens-truly listens-to what someone is saying. Who strives to do the right thing. Who is the first to own up to a mistake. Who is willing to do whatever it takes to find the answer to correct that mistake. This person stands up day after day and says I am an American. I only make $35,000 a year. I work two jobs and I raise three kids. I balance my work with my family. Sometimes this means eating at McDonald’s but that extra hour I get to see my kids on the soccer field is worth the price of the Big Mac-granted my jeans are a fitting a little too tight-but it was worth it. I go to bed wanting to sleep but instead toss and turn wishing I could do something to change the world. This person I know and have so far described has also fallen but risen after every fall. This person has made their share of mistakes and has been on their knees praying for forgiveness more times than they can count. This person is as real as real can be. This person never loses sight of the American dream. I know this person is out there and when someone finds them, please let me know. Because, this person should be our next President and they have my vote.
