Bible verses inspire, motivate and inform. Favorite ones offer a calming presence in troubled times as well as the comfort of ‘old friends’ to reconnect with frequently and on special occasions.
Here are Bible verses that are special to me and the reasons why.
Psalm 121, Verses 1-2, I lift up my eye to the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
Gazing upward, I think of heaven and peace.
I can ask for help and know there is a response.
The Maker of heaven and earth is available to me even though I am a mere dot in the world’s population.
My church, when I was growing up, used these verses as continual inspiration. The church with its tall steeple was built on a hill.
Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Leaning on Jesus in times of stress will ease tension.
Jesus invites us to lay our burdens on him, so we can have peace.
Jesus wants us to have rest for our souls.
Luke 12:34, For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Our interests indicate the focus of what we love.
We should treasure life and it beauty, not possessions.
Others will see what we treasure most.
John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Jesus is a gift given to us by God.
Belief in Jesus leads to eternal life.
God loves the world so much he sacrificed his son for us.
A mission in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the homeless is named this. My father was on the board.
Ephesians 4:28, Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you.
Everyone values kindness.
Forgiveness is a compassionate act.
God forgives our sins through his son, Christ.
There needs to be more kindness in the world.
Revelation 3:20, Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him and he with me.
Christ wants us to answer his call to follow him.
Christ invites us to open the door and welcome him into our lives.
We can have fellowship with Christ by asking him to dwell in our hearts.
Christ is always available, for us to call upon him.
