If you have been living under a rock for the last few months, let be be the first to tell you that the political race for the presidency is fully underway. What a great time of year! Don’t you just love hearing the radio commercials or watching the TV commercials that bad-mouth political wannabes? Isn’t it so refreshing hearing one candidate rip apart another either in a live debate, or a commercial, or on their favorite social website? In the case of the Presidency of the United States, these people that are running for the office are almost always trying to get a job that pays them a fraction of what they earn in the private sector, takes away years off their lives, and gets them hated by one-half of the population. What a job, what a country!
OK, so my sarcasm is thinly veiled, but it is for a purpose. Ever since the inception of the office of President, there have always been ulterior motives to gain the position other than serving the country. This is where you say, “No duh,” or “Newsflash!”. Wouldn’t it be nice to see a potential candidate that really wanted to help Americans out of the goodness of his/her heart, rather than for the dollar signs he/she sees at the finish line?
Like most Americans, I have adopted the personal policy that everyone involved in politics is crooked. But I am also faced with the moral decision of voting. I 100% feel that everyone who has died fighting for the freedom of this country gets disrespected when you or I “choose” not to vote (that choice is paid for in blood). The other side of that moral dilemma is which candidate is less crooked than the other? I am absolutely tired of voting for the lesser of two evils, and that’s why I did some research.
Everyone knows this is a Republican or Democrat country–but does it have to be? I found almost 50 political parties you can align yourself with if you too are tired of voting for the lesser of two evils. If I’m not mistaken, this country started with a Whig party and Theodore Roosevelt had the Bull Moose party, right? I think all of the parties I easily found on the internet would accommodate many, if not all, walks of life. For example, I found a Socialist party, a Modern Whig party, a Peace and Freedom party, an American Nazi party, and for the drug lovers, the United States Marijuana party. There’s even a United States Pirate party!
Now you’re going to say, “A vote not for a Republican is a vote for the Democrats!” Come on, people! Do some research! You don’t have to vote the same as your great-great-great-great grandfather anymore! Jesse Ventura became governor of Minnesota as an Independent! And are you positively sure you like absolutely everything about your candidate? Do you like the way he tells you one thing and your enemy the exact opposite–just for a vote?! Would you really be able to get a good night’s rest knowing you voted for someone you really like for this, but can’t stand for that?
The parties are out there and as of this writing there is still plenty of time to align yourself with one you feel most comfortable. It’s time to step out of your comfort zone and do the right thing for America! It may not be this election you get your candidate in office or the one after this or the one after that, but now is the time to get the ball rolling in the right direction. And don’t you owe yourself a night of peaceful sleep after you vote?
