We all use it, we all enjoy it and we certainly cannot live without it!! What am I blabbering on about I hear you say – MUSIC!! (of course)
I am writing this article ( yes to make a few extra dosh we all want it lol) but more importantly to get your views and ideas on the current state of music. Do you think that music has become too watered down? Could it be any more explicit and involve scenes of a sexual nature in music videos? Would you want your children to be listening and watching such content (because frankly I wouldn’t)? These are some (yes ..note the word some as there is more to come I’m afraid lol) of the issues that I will be exploring throughout this article. This is my first piece and specifically chose the topic of music because it’s something that I have a passion towards and would love your take on this so please feel free to comment!
Let me just start off with question of what happened to the good old days when music was just well..music? Today it’s all about rapping about “hoes” or “bitches” and “getting that money” etc. I ain’t saying that rapping or Hip Hop as a genre of music is bad because the hip hop legends were some of the pioneers of great music such as Biggie or Tupac. But more specifically it beckons the idea that we have become selfish as individuals and go for the materialistic things as opposed to the things that matter the most – you know family, friends, your pet, nature (I mean come on would you want to be looking at a rundown estate from your window..err no) etc. This is a wakeup call and I really think that music is seriously BS right now! Jason Derulo( or whatever his name is I don’t care if I spelt it wrong I don’t want to be able to spell it lol) and Taio cruz perleeze! Real artists is what I know – Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and many more
We all remember the song we fell in love to, or what song we had (or will have) at your wedding. It just has that effect on us. But now it just doesn’t feel that way ( well to me it certainly doesn’t) The melody, rhythm and the harmony (note: these are the 3 element of music, if you didn’t know I guess you learn something new every day) of songs from back in the day and I mean way back in the days were so in tune so in sync that it just felt almost surreal and it just all connected. It made you feel good. That is what music is supposed to make you feel. Paraphrasing the great producer Quincy Jones ” — I believe that the last two things to go from this planet are Water and Music” I mean I totally agree with this statement. Can you imagine not listening to music for a day. I always have my iPod with me it is imperative that I do when I’m on the go or I just feel so incredibly sick without listening to it. It is a replica of a drug almost. But back to the point we cannot live without it! And don’t deny it, because you know it’s true.
But ..nowadays music that is made I just seriously can’t stand. America is the biggest consumer of music, followed by Japan and then by the UK. But above all, America rules the music industry. It’s all plastered over sources such as MTV and other places. I respect all genres of music. But Hip-hop and Rnb has dominated the music industry over god knows how long, Probably before I was even conceived. But back to the point I think that we need a kind of shake in the music industry, they say “don’t fix it if it aint broken” but honestly I think we are nearly there. We need to take it back old skool. I would love if country and pop music was just the fad. Soul music was so incredibly mesmerizing with its sounds and rock music is also another one too. Rnb and Hip-hop is just pop. Pop stand for popular music so there is no real Hip-hoppers out there. I mean do you consider Drake or “drizzie” and lil Wayne dubbed to the next Tupac or Nas. Err no! I mean perleeze get real!! It’s time for a change! The music industry as well as other industries such as film is just money-hungry. They don’t give a damn whether music is good or crap “as long as it sells” and they receive their wage packets. It’s not about the integrity or honesty that builds the foundation of music but whether the artists are marketable and able to bring in money, money , money.
I ask you one question that I advise that you just take a minute to ask yourself..
What is your passion? With everything else aside what would you do as a living that would bring you joy even if you got paid or not? What would make you dance in the street right now if you were living and doing the thing that you have been wanting to do for whole of your life?
These are the questions that would help discover your dreams and ambitions. Now back to music if these tick all the boxes for you if we were considering music and being an artist or working in the industry then money should certainly be no object. You should go with your heart and do what you believe in no matter how corny and clich© that sounds. We need to wake and pay attention because the world is screaming out to us. We have become way too obsessed and consumed with these outer things that we have forgotten in inner joy and the things that make us happy.
I know I may have gone way off the point ( and my back is killing me right now) I am going to leave it there. Like I said this is my first piece and I just literally wrote like a crazy women for the past half an hour expressing my feelings about music in every way possible lol covering well everything really.
Please do leave your comments (any nasty ones well you know what you can all go do ) but this is just to hear your take.
Another thing please do add what your favourite decade and era of music was. Mine personally was the 90s!! Cannot get over that era! And your favourite artists. What was it that made you instantly attracted these types of music.
Well I’m done now (finally) Hope you do enjoy the read.
Thank you, Mucho gracias, und Viel dank
