Singer Amy Winehouse’s final recordings have been put together into one final album, sources say. People is reporting that “Lioness: Hidden Treasures” will be the album’s title and will feature recordings that Winehouse made before dying of an alcohol overdose in July of this year. Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi produced the record, which will be the third album released by Winehouse on Island Records.
It isn’t anything new for an entertainer or artist to pass away and then have their last work released. Often times artists work on new material year-round and so there is a collection of work somewhere waiting to be finished. With musicians especially, there are all kinds of recordings that sit on master tapes collecting dust until they’re finished and released in a new format. Here are now are five examples of a celebrity’s last work being released after death.
John Candy in “Canadian Bacon” – Released in 1995, a year or so after the comedic icon passed away at the age of 43, the comedy written and directed by “Bowling for Columbine” director Michael Moore, the comedy was a big flop, and a sad way for Candy’s film career to finish.
Chris Farley in “Dirty Work” – The Norm MacDonald and Artie Lange vehicle that has garnered a somewhat cult-status among fans featured the last film performance of Chris Farley. For his brief cameo role as a war veteran with serious issues Chris didn’t even get a named credit. Farley’s last starring role was in the atrocious comedy “Almost Heroes” which also starred “Friends” actor Matthew Perry.
Heath Ledger in “The Dark Knight” – Though it was not his final film, it was quite possibly his best work, and Heath Ledger’s performance in the Christopher Nolan “Batman Begins” sequel won the late actor the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Heath had passed away in 2008, just after finishing his work on the Batman film.
Tupac Shakur’s Multiple Posthumous Records – Rap icon and martyr Tupac Shakur’s career post-death has arguably been more lucrative and definitely has been more prolific than it was in life. The “All Eyes on Me” rapper released six albums while he was alive, and has had eight albums dropped after his death in 1996 at the young age of just 25. Seven of the eight new albums have been certified at least Platinum, meaning they’ve sold at least a million copies world-wide.
