We are born innocent but slowly get used to the ways of the world; maybe, even while in the womb! The world is so inviting, just for the picking, but some already own portions of it, few even as a birthright! We are soon judged and need street smarts to survive. The joy of living through sharing becomes complicated. We fight increasingly for the limited resources. On top, there are dire warnings that we haven’t seen anything as yet!
We have become restricted and limited in our choices. Money is an all important constraint, becoming scarcer despite lavish quantitative easing! We are preoccupied with living to set standards, and lose focus on enjoying the spread that welcomed us when we first set foot, or rather when we looked around in wonder in the first days of life on this planet! Soon, the struggles overcome us as we run with the crowd till we lose breath and pace. Before long, nature takes its own course!
What we forget love, which multiplies more than by geometric progressions when shared, and spring eternal within us. But we need to have the right ingredients, though; otherwise hate takes over! One needs to look around, pause and take a deep breath. Everything is transient. Why go after those that most are obsessed with when we are left with others that many overlook? After all, we do not need much to have a meaningful life. Once the race to nowhere is discarded, we are at peace with ourselves! The journey becomes smoother when we move away from those that others fight for. It becomes no more our priority, but may even find its own way to reach us in better ways!
We are wired differently; let those with passion go after their relentless pursuits that benefits humanity or otherwise. The problem arises when all want to follow such paths that are clearly not our strengths. We move away from some basics, towards a life that leads us nowhere but to frustrations. Once we are mentally attuned to a slower pace of work with time to enjoy those that gives us solace in our journey through different stages, we can be at great peace with ourselves even in tougher times. After all, the downs in our lives make us appreciate the sweeter moments more.
The world should be a much better place, when much ego that is in evidence is eschewed. The leaders of the free world have forgotten the most admired words from history – they are heading the government of the people, by the people and for the people, and the nation shall not perish from the earth. The sacrifices made to attain freedom shall not be in vain. But, are they not setting one group against another in perpetuity? They have a higher duty to surrender to the aspirations of the majority deprived, and find common ground to forge ahead to improve our lives.
Remembering our basic duties and commitments to society in general and to own families will lead us to forsaking our egos, and then our goals become clearer. A life of detachment will lead us to the sublime path where we feel and act as part of creation and nature and not outside it. We need to have leaders who have our interests at heart. What we experience now is more due to misplaced priorities in our thinking process, forgetting the basics; not due to lack of trying to overcome our issues.
