I was thrust into something completely new than I’d ever been before. So I picked up my guitar and
started playing Taps.
I played it over twenty times before my mum yelled up to me to keep the racket down. Sighing I slid my
Gibson back into it’s stand, and slumped on my bed.
I was awakened at a later point by the obnoxious phone. I reached down by my bed and picked up the
dumb plastic invention.
” ‘llo?” I mumbled groggily.
“This is your lucky day! Luna Reynolds is moving back to town!”
I had just washed my hair, and put on my best church suit. I was going to First Federal Order Place of
Worship. It’s the newest rave in the country. It has principles of all the religions from when my parents
were kids. I’ve never been to any other type of church, so I’ve nothing to compare it to.
But the real reason I was dressing up, that’s another story. You see, when I was in junior high, I fell in
love. Her name was Luna Reynolds. She was pretty, funny, and most importantly, she had gotten high
marks on all her simulation exams. People who don’t do good on them really have no place in the world,
at least as far as I’m concerned. However, Luna’s family is not born of the United Country, so they had
had to go abroad to straighten out all of the logistics.
I, of course, was heartbroken. I decided to become a rebel (something I saw in one of my father’s old
books), and play a guitar. So ,y parents indulged my little fantasy, and bought me a antique Gibson that
someone had managed to save. The only thing I ever managed to learn was Taps. So I soon grew tired
of looking stupid at school, and got myself back together.
But now she had come back! We were now in grade 15. With only one year left of structured learning,
if I didn’t convince Luna to marry me in that time, chances were I’d never see her again.
So I was dressed most elegantly, and I bought an actual living flower for her as well. On my lousy
allowance, (being only 17 as well), getting a living flower was most trying. It was small and purple, and the
stem looked kind of weak, but it was the best I could afford.
People on the street looked at me funny. I guess it’s not everyday you see a guy walking around
during the church time block with an actual flower.
At service I sat a row behind Luna’s family. Boy, I’ll tell you, Luna sure has changed in three years.
She looks like a fitness leader or something. Only with more curves. Her hair is the most alluring
shade of mauve I’ve ever witnessed. She glanced back twice at me. First casually, then smiling. After the
leader was done giving his speech, I waited for Luna outside by the garden.
I saw her come out, and waved her over. Her father, who happens to be a reserve solider, looked
sternly at me. Her parents both looked severely aged.
“Luna! I never thought I’d…” I started.
“Don’t. Who knows how long we have left anyway…” She whispered.
“What are you on about?” I asked, quietly.
“I missed you, Reeve.” Then she kissed me.
“Here,” I said, offering the flower.
She laughed a bit.
“Come over tonight, I now have my own moped. We could…”
“Reeve, do you love me?” She asked seriously.
“I…I…Yes,” I managed to say.
“Run away with me…before it’s too late?” She pleaded.
“When?” I whispered.
I was packing all my UC essentials. Water, canned food, the little money I’ve saved. Then as I was
looking through a drawer, the news screen flashed on my wall.
There has been a breach in the Earth~Alien issue. A hostile brigade of a planet Hargacom have been
open-firing the earth. All reserve soldiers are being brought in from the UC stations. Repeat- Reserve
soldiers, expected to arrive at the docking bay in 20 minutes. All civilians to remain calm and civilized.
extra FFOPW services will be held daily at regular service hours until the hostiles are dealt with. Civilians
to remain in homes until tomorrow. Families of reserve soldiers to be kept in isolation. Over.
Luna’s father! Luna! She won’t be able to escape.
I raced out to see my parents calmly discussing the matter. They look anoyed that I am in the same
room as them so I return to my quarters. Benson’s father is a reserve as well. That means I won’t even
be able to tell him about my experience with Luna.
I decided to sleep until this silly breach of conduct is righted. Its’ the two week summer break form
school, so I won’t be truant.
The world is in chaos. Our small base ship the UC, or United Country as we ship dwellers call it, are
under attack. Since the computer house lock system is off line, I went to see Luna. we are stealing a
space pod, and rouging out to the next solar system to stay on the friendly planet of Karkos. Talk about
rebellion. Yet besides the emissaries currently on Karkos, we might be the only earth people to survive
The space pod is faulty. It doesn’t operate correctly. I was too nervous to jump the space gap, so it wil
take us a whole two days to reach Karkos.
Luna is depressed. I kissed her, but she sat there silently crying. She won’t say a single word. I’ll have
to get her some medical attention as soon as we get to Karkos.
Catastrophe. Karkos has been destroyed. There is only a months supply of food on the ship. And the
nearest friendly planet is 6 weeks travel. So I’ve written this experience, set us on a one way course to
Berghof, and decided to comfort and cherish Luna while I still can. Whoever finds this ship, know that me
and Luna are now married by order of desperation, and that we only wanted to escape sure death. So at
least try and see if we are still alive. If not, at least give us a proper burial.
Two humanoid species found on ship. Apparently from UC. Devoid of all life function is male. Slight
breathing in female. Place in intensive care unit. Conditions to be updated.
