Imagine how surprised you would be to see fish swimming inside a telephone booth! If you haven’t been drinking, then it must be one of the wild and crazy tanks that Wayde King (Owner/ CEO) and Brett Raymer (COO) of Acrylic Aquariums/ Acrylic Tank manufacturing (ATM) have created.
Busy building some of the most unique one-of-a-kind aquariums in the world, they have suddenly become the stars of their own reality show “TANKED”, airing on Animal Planet, Fridays, at 9 pm. It is all about their creativity and being out-of-the-box original.
When I mentioned the Wayde and Brett could make anything into an aquarium, I really meant anything! Brett remembered, “Wayde was surprised when I rolled into the building with a New York- themed telephone booth. I try to create it and Wayde builds it. “TANKED” is a build show and we tried to recreate all of the dynamics of the build and show how we do it without giving away our secrets. So far we’ve had a lot of success, I’m sure there are a lot of things we haven’t tried yet but we will be happy to give it a whirl. Sometimes a client comes to us with a specific theme or idea but is not too sure. I am constantly raking my brains until I figure it out.”
These are the sculptures of the 21st century, the modern “MILLENNIUM AQUARIUM ART” in all shapes and sizes. The partners show the beauty of what they have created and use nature as art. They have transformed a juke box into an aquarium, built a gum ball- shaped aquarium and even turned an entire car into an aquarium as well.
Wayde explained, “We build aquariums all around the world and are known as number one for building custom shapes. Our company can build any size and any shape from a small five gallon tank to a million gallon tank.
People do not realize how much goes into these big tanks. We are involved in everything from creating the design to planning the plumbing, architecture, electrical system, computer, to our staff.”
ATM’s motto: “If you can dream it, we can build it.” The largest aquarium tank they have ever built measured 70′ long x 10′ wide x 18′ tall filled with 70,000 gallons of water but there have been many acrylic windows for dolphin pools which were one- million gallons plus.
Looking behind the scenes of their family run business is a great subject for a reality show. It is never boring because every day is different. Brett feels, “Between us as a family, we look at the business as fun every day, laugh and play pranks on each other. Don’t get me wrong, the work is stressful once in a while but instead of yelling at each other, we try to joke and make light of the work as opposed to be stressed.
One thing that makes us a unique reality show, it is not all about arguing and not all about crazy drama. We have drama in building and dealing with clients.”
The scenes I saw from “TANKED” were so natural, so impromptu and so amusing. It is a fun television program with many surprises. Watch the new “TANKED” television program airing on Animal Planet, Fridays, at 9 pm.
