Thanksgiving is a time to gather and enjoy the company of family and friends. It is also a great opportunity to teach kids what it means to be thankful for the many wonderful things and people they have in their lives.
The parades in the Orange County area are all closer to Christmas, but below you will find a few kid friendly things to help you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.
If you are looking for something educational and fun before the actual holiday, check out Thanksgiving at Kidseum at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. Hear the story of the first Thanksgiving and learn about Thanksgiving traditions through arts and crafts. This event is geared towards kids ages 2-8 and their families. The celebration will take place on Sunday, November 20 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The event is free with admission. General Admission is $12 for adults, $9 for students (18 and up), seniors (62 and up) and children (6-17), and free for kids under age 6. Ready for a feast? Disneyland will be serving up Thanksgiving dinners at several locations throughout the resort like Storytellers Cafe at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Disney’s PCH Grill at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. But the most talked about meal might be A Disney Family Thanksgiving Feast in the Grand Ballroom of the Disneyland Hotel. A Disney Family Thanksgiving Feast will feature a traditional Thanksgiving buffet with kid-friendly options and a visit from Chip and Dale and other Disney characters. The event takes place from noon to 6 p.m. on Nov. 24, 2011. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 1-714-781-DINE (3463). The meal will cost $71.99 for ages 10 and over and $20.99 for kids ages 3 – 9. The Disneyland Hotel is located at 1150 Magic Way, Anaheim, CA 92802. For questions about the event call 1-714-778-6600.
Another fun and family-friendly option can be found just north of Orange County in Long Beach at the Aquarium of the Pacific. A traditional Thanksgiving buffet will be served in the Aquarium’s Cafe Scuba and the aquarium exhibits will be open for viewing. The event takes place on Nov. 24, 2011 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The cost of the event is $27 for ages 3-11 and $35 for those 12 and over. The cost includes the Thanksgiving meal and admission to the Aquarium. The aquarium suggests you RSVP at 1-562-590-3100. The Aquarium is located at 100 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, CA 90802. There are parking structures and lots located near the Aquarium where parking will be available for a fee. There is also a handful of metered street parking spots nearby.
