Being a professional wrestler has often been the opening to become a movie star. There have been wrestlers who have appeared in blockbuster hits like The Rock. But being a great professional wrestler doesn’t exactly mean that Hollywood stardom is a given (right Triple H or Ken Kennedy?). That being said, there have been several great movies made starring wrestlers including Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena, Kane, Roddy Piper and so many more. What have been the best?
Starring Austin, this 2007 release was one of the best movies to come out of WWE Films over the past couple of years. Austin has had other great movies over the years, including Damage and Knockout , but this movie tops them all. The movie is about 10 death row inmates who are put on an island, with the last inmate remaining set free. The only way to eliminate the other inmates was to kill them, and the action was certainly rolling along. For me, The Condemned is one that can be watched repeatedly without losing its appeal.
While other fans enjoyed The Marine more than 12 Rounds , they both still had the same plot idea. This movie was one that I feel better about watching again. Cena is a detective Danny Fisher who during a chase of a suspect took the blame for the girlfriend of the suspect being killed. A year later, that suspect broke out of jail, kidnapped Fisher’s girlfriend, and decided to make Cena’s character complete 12 challenges to get her back.
For me, this is the best movie The Rock has done to date (outside of Fast Five) . His character, Chris Vaughn returns home from a stint as a soldier to find his childhood town changed. Gone was the old mill, and in was the new casino, ran by former friend Jay Hamilton. When Vaughn is attacked at the casino, he decides to take actions into his own hand and run for sheriff. Another character that really helped make this movie so great was Johnny Knoxville. The Jackass star played Ray Templeton, who was almost like the real life Knoxville. Much like the Austin movie, this is one that can be watched repeatedly.
