Less than an hour from Cancun airport you will find a place where the foliage is a bit greener, the pace is calmer and the sea is a little bluer. Riviera Maya offers a combination of the Mexican and Mayan cultures with an array of resorts. Many of these cater to families and you can find a perfect vacation for the adults and children at Grand Velas, Now or Dreams.
Grand Velas Riviera Maya
The Grand Velas Riviera Maya has everything adults could want, including a spa that is over 76,000 square feet and AAA Five Diamond restaurants, while incorporating family friendly rooms (all suites) and activities. The resort is located right on the Caribbean Sea, but offers family-friendly suites with jungle views.* These suites are equipped with DVD players, plasma televisions and refrigerators, stocked with drinks and snacks.
At the Grand Velas, kids 5-12 will enjoy the Yax Paal Kids Club, where’s there’s movies, arts and crafts, X-Box Games and more. Teens can go on eco tours, learn how to speak Spanish or Mayan, or go out on the boogie boards. The whole family can kayak, snorkel or take out the pedal boats, and all of it included free of charge.
Dreams Riviera Cancun
Dreams Resorts were made for families with all the amenities and restaurants kids love. At Dreams Riviera Cancun, there’s even a Revive Juice Bar for smoothies and a Barefoot Grill by the pool for pizza and burgers. Kids of all ages will have a blast on the ocean trampoline or the Euro-Bungee. Parents can enjoy a quiet dinner for two while children enjoy movies shown under the stars, or take lessons in cocktail making and tango while the kids go on treasure hunts.
The rooms at Dreams Riviera Cancun come in all sizes and have internet, large screen televisions and patios or balconies. Room service is available 24 hours with a selection of snacks and meals. There’s also a mini-bar replenished daily with juices, sodas and water. If you are looking for a bit more luxury, Preferred Club Suites offer upgraded amenities. Dreams also has another resort in Tulum, close to the architectural ruins.
Two Now Resorts are located in Riviera Maya, Now Jade and Now Sapphire. Both offer everything you’d expect of an all-inclusive – meals, drinks, room service and activities – with a more modern and luxurious feel than many other beach resorts (you don’t need a wristband here). They also each have an Explorer’s Kid Club that offers supervised activities. Families will love the theme parties and entertainment every night at both resort, as well as waiter service at the pool and beach.
Now Jade Riviera Cancun has a wonderful location, within walking distance to the fishing village of Puerto Morales and a swim away from the second largest coral reef in the world for optimum diving and snorkeling. Now Sapphire Riviera Cancun offers something you won’t find in this area and will have difficulty locating at another all-inclusive anywhere – a pool just for teens. The resort recognizes that teens need their own oasis and that should be more than a camp room. The area is a big hit and a reason alone for families with teenagers to choose this resort.
