On Tuesday, December 13, 2011, America saw its latest “Biggest Loser” champion crowned. For the first time in the show’s history, the finals consisted of three men: Antone Davis, John Rhodes & Ramon Medeiros.
Antone, the only person to stay with one trainer (Bob Harper) throughout the entire run of the show and America’s fan favorite as he showed heart throughout the entire season for other contestants. Fans of the show online showered him with love all season long.
John, who became this season’s “game player” when he gave Sunny Sinclair a one pound disadvantage on the scale and then tried to eliminate her during week 10. It was for naught when Antone stepped in and ‘saved’ Sunny from elimination. From that point on, the fans in forums and the Biggest Loser Facebook page called him this season’s Vicki Vilcan (season 6).
Ramon, the youngest of the finalist, was eliminated during week 10 but found himself back on the ranch by winning the marathon during the last televised week before the finale. He also joined a small group of contestants who found love while on the ranch when he started to date fellow player Jessica Limpert.
When the finale started, fans were welcomed by the host of the show, Allison Sweeny & the band Train who performed the theme song of the show. Afterward, we were told that the finale was unlike any other as all the previously eliminated contestants had already been weighed in backstage and only the top 3 from that group would be weighed in live. After breaking the eliminated contestants into groups of 4, it was revealed the top 3 were Vinny Hickerson, Patrick Ferrari & Jennifer Rumple.
With the fans in attendance being loud and excited, the final numbers were Vinny losing 43.19%, Patrick losing 39.02% and the at home winner Jennifer losing 43.94% of her body weight and winning the $100,000 prize. She was also given flowers by the love of her life (but not necessarily his life) Bob Harper.
When it came to the 3 playing for the $250,000 prize and title of The Biggest Loser, it was John who won by losing an amazing 49.44% of his overall body weight followed by Antone (45.19%) and Ramon (43.38%). John was the final player on the scale and as he professed from the first day, he was there to pick the confetti out of his hair at the end.
Overall, the finale was fun and different. There was a preview of Season 14, which included someone who looks like Santa Claus, and confirmation that trainer Dolvett Quince would be back and for the first time ever, there will be no female trainer next season.
Season 14 begins on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012.
