If you haven’t caught The Walking Dead on AMC, I highly suggest that you watch it. This show has some of the most intricate and complex characters that I have ever seen on a TV series. The show is set in a post-apocalyptic world just after a zombie apocalypse has taken place. It is set aside from other zombie related entertainment because the zombie part of the show is actually a secondary part of the story. The story line is more focused on the drama that the characters encounter and their struggle to live within a world that has completely changed. A group of survivors band together and try their best to stay alive while dealing with the conflicting personalities of the people within their group and trying avoid being eaten alive by those who have been infected with a virus that makes the dead walk and causes them to seek only food. Below are the characters within the series and some information about each one. This series is based on a comic book series.
This once sheriff wakes up in a hospital bed to find that the hospital has become overrun with the walking dead. He had been recovering from a bullet wound and desperately wants to find his wife and son as soon as he awakes. He is probably the most morally sound character of the series and is constantly struggling with living in this new world and his morals are always being tested. It is clear that he has been a good friend and a good father throughout his life. Eventually, he ends up becoming the undisclosed leader of the group and all of the others begin to look to him for answers to their questions.
She is the wife of Rick who had been lead to believe that her husband had died. Believing her husband was dead, she sought refuge with his best friend Shane and began having a love affair with him. It is clear that she misses her husband but she has no hope that he will ever been returned to her. She struggles with trying to keep her son safe during this new terror that has struck the world and she is constantly being tested. Fending for herself isn’t really an option since before, she was a housewife who had no knowledge of guns or any way to survive aside of being taken care of.
He is Rick and Lori’s son, a very young boy who is struggling to adapt to the new way of the world. He is smart for his young age and is adapting to the new ways of life far better than most children would. He develops a relationship with Shane and begins to look to him as a father figure in the short absence of his biological father Rick. Despite all the terrors unraveling in front of his eyes he attempts to stay positive if only to ease his mother’s mind.
In the beginning, Shane is basically the leader of the group of survivors. He has extensive knowledge of guns and is a great shot. If I would describe Shane in one would it would be, ‘survivor’. He refuses to let anything or anybody get in the way of his survival and it becomes clear that he will do whatever it takes to make that happen. He develops strong feelings for Lori and begins to look at Carl as if he were his own. He tries his best to protect the group in whatever way he can and eventually tries to teach those in the group to take care of themselves. He struggles with many decisions that could draw the line between life and death. I’m very curious to see how his character develops throughout the series.
She is smart, young woman who was on a road trip with her younger sister when the world took a turn for the worst. She is also a survivor but struggles with the ways of the new world and adapting to the people she finds herself surrounded by. Eventually it becomes clear that she will also do what it takes to survive. She seems to want to help the group, especially the other women who aren’t used to being on their own. She is intelligent and independent and does not like to be told what to do.
He is the oldest survivor within their group and he owns an RV that the group uses to travel. He becomes very close to Andrea and is always trying to look out for her best interests despite her attempts to make him stop. He is also morally sound and has no adapted well to what it takes to survive in the new world. He is always holding a gun and is usually the one on look-out to watch for ‘walkers’ or zombies if they come within the vicinity of the group. He likes to know what is going on within their camp and is usually the go-to guy if somebody is in need of talking. He never hesitates to offer his advice and he is very good at keeping secrets for members of the group.
Before the world basically ended, Glenn used to deliver pizzas but it becomes clear that is a very useful guy to have around. He is good at planning the ins and outs of missions and is quick on his feet. He is very caring and will do whatever he must to make sure the group has the things they need. He is one of those people that likes to put others above himself and most of the group looks to him if there is somewhere they need to go that is necessarily considered safe.
He proves to be a good person to have around. He is a good hunter and tracker and his skills with the cross bow he carries also prove to be very useful as well. He helps get food for the group and is also very good at surviving. At first, it is clear that there was a history of drug use and bad behavior but eventually it ends up looking like he does care for the group and is only out to aid in their best interests.
He struggles with finding common ground with certain members of the group. He seems to have bad luck and is constantly at odds with past actions. He also seeks wisdom from Dale and they build a friendship that is based on trust.
She is a woman who had been constantly abused by her husband and made to feel less than she was. She is a very compassionate woman who holds a motherly feeling over the others in the group. She likes to look out for everybody by cooking, cleaning clothing and offering comfort to those when she feels they need it.
Her story takes a turn for the worst in season 2 but she is the daughter of Carol and is usually quiet, probably because of the years of abuse she witnessed her mother enduring. She usually seems very frightened as any other little girl would in a situation like this but she develops a friendship with Carl for possibly no other reason then that they are around the same age.
Those are the main characters of the series are their interactions with each other as well as their actions of survival in this post-apocalyptic world is very interesting and compelling. This show is constantly testing the moral boundaries of all of the characters not only with each other but other people they meet along their journey to live. This show has amazing story lines, positively fabulous acting and great special effects. It is quite possibly one of the best shows on network television and is a must-see for almost everybody.
